Tempus AI announced the launch of the next-generation of Lens, its agentic AI platform designed to accelerate drug development and research. Lens is commercially available today via lens.tempus.ai and is already utilized by a rapidly expanding user base, including 19 of the top 20 largest biopharma companies. Once a research plan is finalized, an agent executes the analysis in code against Tempus' multimodal library; results are delivered via interactive, shareable applications, and users can toggle to a "code" view to audit the underlying analytical logic or export the entire project for further technical extension.

The toggle-to-code feature is the entire moat. Every other "co-scientist" agent in pharma right now is a black box stapled to a chat interface — Tempus is shipping with the audit trail as a first-class UI affordance, which is the only configuration FDA reviewers will accept when an agent-designed cohort shows up in an IND submission. As Tempus' Ryan Fukushima framed it, "drug development requires thousands of pivotal decisions between molecule and approval, and at its core, it is a navigation problem—most paths end in dead studies and wasted capital." The 19-of-20 adoption number is the tell that pharma R&D leaders have already given up on building this internally; the question now is whether Tempus' lock-in lasts beyond the first competitor that ships equivalent auditability on a foundation model the customer already licenses.
