What happened

Anthropic on Tuesday launched Claude Tag, a shared AI agent embedded directly inside Slack, available in beta and research preview for Claude Enterprise and Team customers , replacing the older Claude in Slack app. Migration requires an administrator opt-in within 30 days, and Anthropic is issuing introductory launch credits to eligible Enterprise and Team organizations. The product runs on Opus 4.8 and operates under a single channel-scoped org identity rather than per-user permissions. Anthropic says 65% of its own product team's code is currently generated by an internal version of Claude Tag, and the pattern is also spreading to data analysis and support ticket resolution . What it means

Putting Claude on the channel rather than the user changes the unit of governance from "who has a seat" to "who has the channel." That is a billing shift (org-billed token spend, not user seats) and an audit shift (channel-scoped memory, admin-scoped tools) — and it removes the alibi that AI usage was just a few employees experimenting on personal accounts. The deeper bet is on stickiness: once a channel has months of accumulated context and connected tools, ripping Claude out costs more than switching a chatbot, which is precisely why Salesforce, OpenAI Workspace Agents, and Slackbot are racing for the same square foot.
