A KKR-led group on Thursday launched a new company with more than $10 billion in committed capital to finance AI infrastructure build-out; the Kuwait Investment Authority, Nvidia and Vistra are anchor investors in the company, called Helix Digital Infrastructure, which is led by former AWS CEO Adam Selipsky . Nvidia will help Helix with AI data-center design while Vistra will be the preferred power provider; KKR's infrastructure platform manages over $100 billion in assets, including more than $70 billion across digital and power . Helix is the most explicit acknowledgment yet that AI compute is now a regulated-utility problem dressed as a venture story. The structure is the giveaway: a PE balance sheet, a chip vendor as a strategic LP, a power utility as preferred provider, and a sovereign wealth fund anchoring long-duration capital. The hyperscalers — Google, Microsoft, Amazon — already do all four of these things in-house; Helix exists for the second tier of "users of digital infrastructure" who can't. This lands two days after Apollo and Blackstone announced financing for a $35 billion expansion of AI capacity for Anthropic using Broadcom's custom chips — meaning roughly $45B of private-credit AI capacity was structured in 48 hours. CFOs evaluating multi-year compute commitments now have a fourth procurement path beyond AWS/Azure/GCP, with a different cost-of-capital profile than any of them.
