Bloomberg reported Meta is building a cloud unit — internally "Meta Compute" — to sell access to its AI infrastructure, putting it head-to-head with AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
- Meta is developing plans to sell both raw computing capacity and access to AI models hosted on its infrastructure — including its own Muse Spark models, an approach akin to AWS's Bedrock — in an effort internally dubbed "Meta Compute" , Bloomberg reported.
- Meta had committed to spending $182.9 billion on AI infrastructure as of the end of the first quarter, and Zuckerberg told the May shareholder meeting that entering cloud computing was "definitely on the table" , per TechCrunch.
- Meta shares rose about 10% on the report, while neocloud providers CoreWeave and Nebius fell 10.8% and 12.4% on fears a hyperscaler with spare GPUs undercuts them , per Sherwood.
