What happened

OpenAI on Thursday added credit usage analytics and updated spend controls to ChatGPT Enterprise, with a Global Admin Console showing ChatGPT and Codex credit consumption broken down by user, product, and model. Admins can set a default workspace credit limit, configure group-level caps, and create individual overrides; Reuters reported the features were available to enterprise clients starting Thursday, and the same data flows out through a unified Cost API.

What it means

OpenAI shipped this the same week the FT wrapped a feature on enterprises rationing tokens — that timing is the story. Spend controls are a confession that token-based billing is breaking finance teams faster than buyers can build their own guardrails, and shipping the Cost API before a dashboard layer means OpenAI knows FinOps tools will eat the visibility layer anyway.
