Cloudflare's Radar dashboard shows automated traffic has overtaken humans on the open web for the first time, with Cloudflare Radar data showing agentic AI bots now generate the majority of web requests, at 57.4% versus 42.6% from humans . CEO Matthew Prince posted that "agentic traffic [is] growing so fast that bots have now passed human traffic online for the first time in the Internet's history," a crossover he had previously expected at the end of 2027. Reporting clarifies that the surge comes from agents that search the web on behalf of AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Gemini, not legacy crawlers , and regional variance is wide: North America skews to about 68.6% agentic traffic, while in the US Midwest humans still lead at 54.5% .

The number to watch isn't 57.4% — it's 18 months ahead of schedule. Every forecast a CMO, publisher, or attribution vendor built in 2025 assumed a 2027 crossover; those models are now wrong by more than a planning cycle. The downstream consequence is not abstract: ad networks measure humans, programmatic auctions price humans, SEO ranks for humans, and a growing slice of inventory is now being requested by something that doesn't click ads, doesn't convert, and doesn't return. Prince himself called the underlying classification "a bit messy" , which is the appropriate caveat — but a directional finding from the CDN sitting in front of roughly one-fifth of all websites is the closest thing the industry has to ground truth.

HTTP request share is not the same as time-on-site or commercial intent — humans still dominate engaged sessions, and the "crossover" may be a measurement of agent verbosity more than a transfer of economic power.
