Notion just told the market it would rather be the runway than the airplane. By hosting code execution (Workers), syncing the database of record, and letting Claude Code and Cursor show up as workspace participants, Notion is making a bet that the value of an agent collapses without the surrounding context — the doc, the table, the comment thread — and that owning that surface is more defensible than building a frontier model. Custom Agents already use the Notion credit system, which means companies will have to think about AI workflows the way they think about cloud usage: useful, scalable and potentially easy to overspend on if nobody is watching . The real question this raises for buyers is whether the orchestration layer should sit in a productivity tool, a CRM, or an IDE — and Notion just made its claim before Salesforce and Atlassian made theirs.
