Our Take
Routines is the feature that turns Claude Code from a coding assistant into an autonomous agent. Running automations in the cloud without an active session is a paradigm shift for developer workflows.
Routines: Automations Without Babysitting
On April 14, 2026, Anthropic released Routines in research preview — a new way to set up Claude Code automations that run on Anthropic's cloud infrastructure. Unlike traditional coding assistant interactions, Routines keep running even after you close your laptop, handling tasks like code reviews, test runs, and refactoring autonomously.
Desktop App Redesign
The redesigned desktop app includes an integrated terminal for running tests and builds, an in-app file editor for spot edits, a rebuilt diff viewer aimed at large changesets, and an expanded preview pane. The goal: reduce context-switching between Claude Code and your actual development environment.
Claude Mythos Preview
Anthropic also announced Claude Mythos Preview, a new general-purpose model that performs strongly across the board and is particularly capable at computer security tasks. In response, they launched Project Glasswing, an effort to use Mythos Preview to help secure critical software infrastructure.
Model Deprecations
Claude Sonnet 4 and Claude Opus 4 are being retired on June 15, 2026. Anthropic recommends migrating to Claude Sonnet 4.6 and Claude Opus 4.6.
